Prospect Heights, here we come...
A (relatively) brief biographical timeline of my adult life:
1998 - I finally give up the ghost, and stop my half-assed attempts at finishing college, which I never really gave my all (or, the old college try, if you’ll pardon the pun). I seek gainful employment in the city, and end up with a crappy techie job for a major financial institution.
1999 - I’m recruited away, by a big,...

A second Pony Bar planned for Upper East Side
brewyork:
We’ve been big fans of The Pony Bar (637 10th Ave. at 45th St., Hell’s Kitchen) since it opened back in 2009, and from the crowds that it draws on a nightly basis, we know we’re not the only ones. The Pony makes craft beer accessible, introduces good beer to the masses, and has one of a handful of active cask beer programs in the city. Of course, the only thing better than The Pony...

Blogging Site Tumblr Makes Itself the News →
The popular social blogging site Tumblr is hiring writers and editors to cover the world of Tumblr.
Chris Mohney, a senior vice president for content at BlackBook Media, will be the site’s editor in chief. Jessica Bennett, a senior writer and editor at Newsweek and The Daily Beast, will be the executive editor and, she said, a kind of Tumblr correspondent.
“Basically, if Tumblr were a city of...

Here's a synopsis of how my day has gone so far:
Have a ton of stuff due, because I’m doing the better part of two jobs until May or so, but still managed to drag ass this morning & not get here until 9:30.
I showed up to a global network issue, basically nothing is accessible, meaning I can’t work on my shit.
Get assigned to a new client, even though I’m already “allocated” around 125%. This is widely...

Went to Babbo tonight.
Probably the best pasta I’ve ever had. For what was likely the second time in my life, I enjoyed Italian wines. And our waiter tied it all together perfectly, suggesting that we basically make our own pasta tasting from the a la carte menu after we asked about about doing the “standard” pasta tasting menu with vegetarian options, and then picking the...

Sterling Archer pronounces the hard 'T' in valet,...
Sterling Archer: And so, here's what I propose: We finish these, get some roadies, head back to my huge penthouse, drink chilled champagne, served by my valet.
Girl in Bar: Isn't it pronounced val-eh?
Sterling Archer: Only if he's parking your car.

When beer prices get out of hand, head to social...
brewyork:
We’ve written lately about beer prices getting out of hand at bars in New York City. With the growing popularity of craft beer in the city, it’s no surprise that some businesspeople might try to take advantage of the boom by driving up prices.
How do we combat this?

I'm about to become a Pony All-American
This Saturday, in conjunction with the celebration of my 36th birthday (Christ, I’m old), I shall finally cross that most revered of craft beer thresholds: I shall become a Pony All-American.
For the uninitiated, this means I’ve had 100 unique beers across my visits to The Pony Bar. It’s taken my longer than I’d anticipated. My first beer was on May 20, 2010. It will be...
First Look at Top Hops Beer Shop
brewyork:
Three weeks into the year, New York is already one craft beer shop richer, with the opening of Top Hops Beer Shop (94 Orchard St., at Broome St., Lower East Side) over the weekend. We scoped it out, and while they’re still working out the kinks, we can tell it’ll be a welcome addition to the LES.

Well put. Fuck the beer snobs.
The later you stay up watching IFC, the creepier...
One of them was literally for a penis enlargement pump (think Austin Powers) that alternates scripted clips of an elderly man in a bathrobe approaching his similarly clad wife from behind and pressing himself against her with actual customer testimonials from men who look like a who’s who of child molesters and/or Star Trek convention attendees.
Alexander Payne is sitting next to Rupert Murdoch & Wendy Deng Murdoch. This should say a lot about the state and mentality of News Corp/Fox, that in the midst of major corporate and PR crisis they’re mostly concerned with getting dressed up and staring at George Clooney.
Did I just hear the phrase, “from the upcoming film Total Recall,” and they were serious? This is being remade?
We had intended to catch up on the Golden Globes after getting home from watching football, but Time Warner Cable decided to skip the record on NBC in favor of recording Desperate Housewives for my wife, which we’d explicitly said to skip. Thanks.
Really, I’ll just drink more.

Mets v Red Sox
In case it’s never been said here before, I’m quite the Mets fan. This includes Bobby Valentine.
The Red Sox are my “AL team,” and tonight I went out for drinks with my friend Mike, who is a Sox fan with the Mets as his “NL team,” and we had a lengthy conversation.
Ultimately, we believe he’s a great match for the Sox. With all the crap they dealt...
The Pitfalls of Working for a Non-US Based Company
I had to call a help desk to arrange for some new access (one of a solid 25 or so that are kicking around out there, supporting different systems and functions). I placed this call at 12:03pm. I received a recorded message informing me that they were closed for the day, and that I should try back tomorrow.

It’s 27 degrees out and I just walked a block & a half without a coat for coffee. On the upside, I am slightly more awake now.
I got around 2 1/2 hours of sleep last night...
From 2-3am, and then again from 5:15-6:45am.
Today is going to suck. And have lots of coffee.

Reusable Coffee Cups
I drink a lot of coffee. And I work from home once or twice each week, lingering over a cup for hours sometimes. I finally grew tired of my coffee getting cold in a standard, open-topped mug. I also drink a fair amount of Starbucks, so when I decided to buy myself an insulated mug, I went for one of theirs, so they’d use it for my coffee when I went in. I figured, be environmentally friendly...

Never Say Never
From 2005-2007, I worked for a great company. Everyone cared and we were well-respected in our industry. But all things change, and when we were acquired by a huge international corporation, they systematically destroyed everything that was once great. When they announced layoffs for the US, I started looking elsewhere, knowing my job was easily done by existing people outside of the US.
That...

THE BAD DEAL: Some Idiot Purchased Groupon's... →
baddeal:
Groupon has advertised a $25,000 deal with Todd English and someone has actually purchased that deal, proving that Grouponomics, the emerging science of making irrational decisions in an over-leveraged world of credit card debt and sovereign debt, is worthy of a Nobel Prize.
The deal…
